how to apply self tanner

I know we aren’t anywhere near summer yet, but I usually start my self-tanning back up in February. Self-tanner is great product for those who want a glow, but don’t want to damage their skin or pay lots of money at a tanning salon.

Self tanning is easy to mess up, but once you master the skill and use the right products it is easy.

Here’s my steps to get the best self tan:

how to apply self tanner

    1. Shower Prep: Before you even think about self tanning, you need to get in the shower and shave and exfoliate. I use exfoliating gloves and a scrub to be sure to have a great canvas to apply my self-tanner. My favorite scrub is actually something I found at Walmart. It is the Bodycology scrub. This scrub is so thick with sugars, and it just eliminates any dry spots. Plus, it’s super cheap!
    2. Wait: When I self-tan, I usually do it on my day off. Ill take a shower in the morning and do all the prep work, and then I will apply the tanner in the late evening before I go to bed. This step is important to me because it prevents me from applying the self-tanner before I am completely dry.
    3. Vaseline: Once you are ready to apply the self-tanner, apply vaseline to your elbows, knees, in between your toes and anywhere you think the self tanner will stick abnormally too. This especially goes for rough skin or dry spots.
    4. Apply: Apply the self tanner with a glove to prevent the dreaded orange hands. There are many different types of self-tanners out there, and St. Tropez is one of the best brands! However, if you are like me and don’t have the money to drop the cash, try out St. Moritz! It’s a great dupe and comes in a mousse or a spray. I like the mousse the best, so it’s the one I grab. Jergens also came out with a mousse if thats more your style. Apply according to the directions and make sure you are dry before you head to bed.
    5. Moisturize: In order to extend your tan, you have to moisturize. I like to use the Jergens gradual tan as my moisturizer at night and a regular creamy moisturizer in the morning. Using the Jergens not only extends your tan, but deepens it over time.
    6. Scrub off and repeat: After your tan begins to fade, repeat all the steps over again. I usually can get my tan to last about 10 days. Its important that you scrub all the tan off, so you will have a even color to apply the tan to.
