How to control dog hair shedding

how to manage dog hair

I am constantly buried in dog hair. My wonderful fur child (an Australian shepherd) sheds like its going out of style. Here are my tips to manage the dog hair:

VACUUM VACUMM VACUUM

how to clean your vacuum

It is so important to vacuum regularly! I vacuum daily or every other day just to control the hair. It makes me so sad when the tank fills up so quickly with shedding remains, but that is my life, and I love Schmidt so much I just accept it.

Also invest in a great vacuum and take care of it. I highly recommend the Hoover WindTunnel Pet. This vacuum is amazing at picking up dog hair! They have tools that use hard plastic instead of the boar bristles. This really picks up dog hair and hair clumps!

RUBBER LINT BRUSH

Say goodbye to the old paper lint brushes, and say hello to the rubber lint brush! The rubber lint brush it reusable and picks up dog hair so easily! I use this on my bed every morning, and it picks up everything from the night before.

SHEDMONSTER/FURMINATOR

Shedding starts with your pooch, so that means regular brushing can really help. I purchased the Shed Monster at Walmart, and it pulls out so much dog hair. Another great brush for this is the Furminator, but it is a little more expensive.

I use the Shed Monster on Schmidt every weekend for about 30 minutes. It is important that you do this outside. I always follow up with a regular shedding brush to catch any of the dog hair that came loose with the Shed Monster.

BLANKETS

I always put a blanket down on my comforter before I go to bed. I love this because it saves my comforter from a lot of dog hair.

In the mornings, I just shake off the blanket and use the rubber brush on my bed.

  • This is literally the bane of my life! Such a helpful post Taylor <3 I have two dogs, one of which is a Labrador which sheds like a mofo, I am constantly vacuuming up his hair from the carpets, sofas, blankets etc. Never thought of using a brush, thats such a good idea! I've just bought a new brush that I'm gonna use regularly to hopefully reduce the shed around the house!
