20 Ways to Beat Boredom

As I am sitting here, looking forward to ten days away from work, I know boredom will turn it’s ugly head before the time is up. However, I have a fool-proof list to beat boredom whenever the problem arises.

Whenever I begin to feel bored, I always try to look for a productive thing to do. I usually try to avoid anything that drains too much energy, but doing little productive things here and there really helps!

I always look for challenges in my home to conquer or browse my Pinterest for a little inspiration.

20 Ways to Beat Boredom

Here is my list of 20 ways to beat boredom:

Try a New Recipe

There are so many recipes that I save on my Pinterest board daily! However, I probably only try 1/4 of them! Whenever I am bored, I look for a recipe that sounds good to give a go. Some days, I am looking for something to change up my healthy eating habits. Other days, I find something full of cheese and other bad-for-you, tasty goodness!

Binge Watch a Series

This suggestion is a given. Sometimes, I am not in the mood to focus and watch TV hours on in, but when I am, I watch too much TV! If you are looking for a series to try on Netflix, Bloodlines, Wentworth, The OA, Sense8, Stranger Things and Black Mirror are all great picks! If you have seen all of these, tweet me @RepressingTay, and I’ll try to help you out!

Shows to Watch if you like Once Upon a Time or Grey’s Anatomy

Color in a Coloring Book

Coloring is making a comeback! There are so many new different coloring books for adults, the possibilities are endless! I love animal coloring books, and I have a special Harry Potter one that I adore! Don’t forget to purchase a giant thing of map pencils (you know, the one you envied when you were in elementary school).

Have a Photography Session

You don’t have to have a nice camera to do this! Sometimes, taking photos and viewing the world in another perspective is just what you need! Whether you are using your iPhone or a DSLR, it is so relaxing to take pictures of things that you love! Why do you think I have so many photos of my pups?

Go Thrift/Antique Shopping

Some of the coolest stores in your town are the antique shops you drive by everyday! I love exploring my hometown area and checking out all the thrift and antique shops. The best part about this is the merchandise is always changing, and the prices are usually cheap! BONUS: If it is in the summer, try going to garage sales!

Organize Something

This suggestion is something I do very often. If I begin to itch with boredom, I will go to some ignored cabinet or drawer and give it some attention. I keep empty jars and baskets in storage to have on hand to optimize my organization sessions!

Go for a Walk/Hike

If you’re bored, the best way to be productive is to be active. I like to try a new spot for a hike or walk around nearby neighborhoods and look at houses. Whatever you like to do, get out and get some fresh air!

Start a Blog

For those of you who love to write, a blog is a great outlet for boredom and creativity. I started this blog in 2017, and although my consistency and style has changed overtime, I love it! If you would like for me to do a post on how to start a blog, leave a comment below!

Do a DIY

Try digging in your Pinterest files, and find something you have been wanting to make for a while. I have a really cool leaf catch-all piece that is just waiting for me to make on a bored day.

Have an at Home Spa Day

I am big on having a home spa day when I am trying to beat boredom! I start with a bath with bubbles and a bath bomb. I also use a foot mask, hair mask and a face mask! I feel so clean and refreshed after!

Go Geocaching

Geocaching is a way to basically go on a treasure hunt in your own hometown! Download an geocaching app, and check it out!

Check out the Local Farmer’s Market

If you are bored on the right day, the Farmer’s Market is the way to go! You get to taste test local food, try locally grown produce and check out all the things people in your area are creating!

Pamper your Pets

If I am really bored, Schmidt gets “tortured”. Fiona hasn’t been around yet for when I get bored and begin grooming. I give Schmidt a bath, brush his teeth, de-shed his hair with my 12 different hair brush, clean his ears and clean his nails. He hates this.

Purge your Things

Try the Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up! If you’re things do not spark joy, dump it or donate it! Before I moved to Texas, I brought 5 big boxes of clothes and decor to Goodwill! Purging feels so good to your soul!

Buy Groceries

This is my go-to boredom buster since I am always needing to go get groceries! I might end up buying more than normal, but at least I will have food all week, so I wont have to go outside!

Tackle Some Home Improvement

I don’t mean knock down a wall and build an extra room. I am talking the little stuff! Replace outdated handles on cabinets or doors. Also, try spray painting something to give it new life!

Deep Clean Something

When I do this boredom buster, I usually tackle the floors. I use a floor shiner for my tile and hardwood and a cleaner for my carpet. I also get down and clean the baseboards! Clean whatever you like, just be productive.

Do a Facebook or Instagram Live

This is a fairly new thing, but I have been testing out Instagram Live on my blog account. They are a fun way to interact with people you have been out of touch with!

Make a Dream List

I do this all the time! Making a dream list means curating a list of all the perfect things you want to complete a project. I use Wayfair to create ideal rooms with perfect decor and furniture! This helps too when I am out and see something simillar for half the price!

THATS MY LIST! How do you beat boredom?
