When you are a pale lady, it can be so irritating when you want to have tan skin! I shy away from tanning beds because of cancer concerns, and I don’t have a pool to lay out on now that I have bought my own house.

Over the years, I have fell in love with self-tanning at home! Originally, I was nervous I would streak or it wouldn’t look natural. I was so wrong! When I started self-tanning in 2011, it was a little taboo. I had to play with different products and learn the best way to use them.

Self-tanning has came so far over the years, and it is easier than ever – especially with the new JERGENS® Natural Glow® Wet Skin® Moisturizer. JERGENS® Natural Glow® Wet Skin® Moisturizer is located at Walmart in the aisle with the lotion (different than with the other self-tan products).

How to Self Tan at Home

I get all my supplies at Walmart with JERGENS®! I have used JERGENS® since I was 17 years old, and I 100 percent believe it is a classic staple brand.

The products you will need are:

PREPARATION

The first step is to make sure you are well exfoliated. I start by using my exfoliating sponge to buff away rough skin patches (like knees, elbows, etc.) while I am in the shower. Afterwards, I use a body scrub to buff the rest of my skin.

During this process, don’t scrub until you irritate your skin. It will mess up the self-tan. Also – make sure you shave!

Once you are dry, apply regular lotion to rough patches such as elbows, heels and knees.

SELF-TANNING

The first round in this self-tanning process is to use an instant product. Self-tanning is split into two different types – gradual and instant.

Instant shows the results immediately, while gradual shows results over time.

I use JERGENS® Natural Glow® Instant Sun® Sunless Tanning Mousse with a tanning mitt. Simply squeeze the mousse onto the mitt, and then apply using smooth, long strokes. Try your best to make sure you are applying the product evenly.

If you want darker results, wait 5 minutes and then reapply the color.

Once you are done, wash your hands thoroughly. I always make extra sure I get in between my fingers washed.

Do not shower for 4-8 hours after application!

MAINTENANCE

There are several ways to make sure you maintain your color over the next couple of weeks.

My favorite is to use the JERGENS® Natural Glow® Wet Skin® Moisturizer immediately after I shower every day.

Once I am done showering, I turn the water off and grab my JERGENS® Natural Glow® Wet Skin® Moisturizer. I use a dime-size amount of product on each arm, and a quarter-sized for each leg.

I get out of the shower and towel dry. Even though this is a wet skin product, you still need to wash your hands to prevent streaking.

Another alternative is to use JERGENS® Natural Glow® Daily Moisturizer as a daily lotion. If you choose this method, apply sparingly to rough patches.

For face, I exclusively use JERGENS® Natural Glow® FACE Daily Moisturizer. I always make sure I don’t put too much product in my eyebrows, and I use it at night.
