SPLURGING VS. PIVOTING: Low-calorie cocktails worth trying

I have learned a lot in these past few months while only eating one meal a day. Primarily, I have discovered that diet sustainability means “pivoting” your favorite foods and making room for splurging.

For instance, I took a look at all my favorite foods and drinks and decided – is this something worth splurging for or should I find a healthier alternative?

When it came to desserts, I clearly knew I wanted to splurge every once in a while. I am not a huge fan of low-calorie ice cream or putting a ton of effort into copycat recipes. If I want something sweet, I will not be satisfied unless I get the real deal. I compromised with myself and decided to limit my dessert splurging to 3-5 times a month.

Then, I looked at drinks with friends. I am a margarita and wine girl, and both of those options packed more calories than preferred. This is a food group that I decided pivoting is a better choice.

I have been searching for different types of cocktails that are affordable and low calorie. Honestly, I feel a lot better about these choices as a whole (and I feel a lot better afterward).

If you are looking for a way to drink low calorie, try these cocktails:

SPARKLING WATER AND VODKA

I do not like sparkling water, but when I mix it with Vodka, I love it! I have tried Topo Chico with lime and vodka as well as other flavors, and I highly recommend it.

Pour one shot of vodka into a glass of ice and top off with sparkling water of your choice.

ZERO MARGARITA

This recipe was slightly inspired by an episode of Queer Eye, but bear with me. If you are craving the margarita taste without the calories, this is a great choice!

Salt the rim of your glass and add ice. Pour one shot of silver tequila into the glass. Top with Sprite Zero. Garnish with a lime.

DIET MOSCOW MULE

Moscow mules are one of my favorite drinks, so I was in dire need of a “skinny” version.

Pour a shot of vodka into a glass of ice. Top with Diet Ginger Beer and a hint of lime juice. Garnish with a lime.

I know these are super basic, but I have never really liked super sweet or fruity drinks. I also love how these are the cheaper cocktails you can order at a bar, and they are super easy to make!
